LOCAL STUDY
From the 19th to the 30th of June, Crowland took over the curriculum as the whole school got involved in our Local Study, ‘Crowland – Past and Present’. We had a fantastic two weeks, during which time all the classes in the school went out into the local area to undertake fieldwork. Each team looked at the study from a different angle, with Foundation Stage focussing on Homes, Years One and Two looking at School and Jobs. Years three and Four based their work around the Environment, and Years Five and Six concentrated on how Crowland has grown and changed over time.
We were very pleased to welcome Mrs Smith and Mrs Elphee from Crowland Town Society into school, to talk to the children about their own experiences of Crowland in the past. The Society also kindly loaned many photographs and items to the school for the display at the end of the study. Members of Crowland WI helped children to make a banner depicting well-known local sights.
The Open afternoon on 30th June was a great success, when many parents and members of the local community were able to look at the displays of work produced by the children. Guests were also treated to a performance of a song all about Crowland, written specially for the study by pupils in Years 5 and 6. The highlight of the afternoon was the chance to walk around Crowland in miniature – a model town built by the children and laid out on the playground!
Please have a look at the photographs to see the model town and some of the displays of work.
