Year One & Two
2009-10
Term 4
Our topic this term is 'Weather'. This topic provides exciting geography opportunities to explore different climates and weathers found around the world which we will then compare with our own in Crowland. In science we will explore the properties of materials including investigations into waterproofing and insulation provided by everyday materials. Using this, in DT we will then design and make a suitably warm coat for our class teddy to visit a cold region of the world, thinking about those materials that will provide insulation and warmth. In ICT we will use the CD ROMs and the internet to research global weather issues, compiling this information into a report using MS Word.
We will also continue with our 'Global Community' theme exploring issues relating to the highly interdependent nature of the world around us, as well as our roles as global citizens.
Our PSHE SEAL (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning) unit is called 'Good To Be Me!' We will focus on our emotions and in particular what it means to feel pride and when we have felt this in our lives.
As always, we love to hear about information the children have found out for the topic at home, so if you have any books, photographs etc. please bring them in for us to share.
